In fiecare an, la 25 martie, praznuim prima sarbatoare inchinata Maicii Domnului, Buna Vestire sau popular Blagovestenia (termenul slav corespunzator celui de Bunavestire). Este praznicul in amintirea zilei in care Sf. Arhanghel Gavriil i-a vestit Sf. Fecioare ca va naste pe Mesia (Luca I, 26-38). Ea a fost asezata cu noua luni inainte de nasterea cu trup a Domnului, adica la 25 martie.
