Sfîntul Partenie s-a nascut în Insula Mltilene. El a fost timp îndelungat episcopul Insulei Chios. Dupa aceea, el a fost ridicat Patriarh al Constantinopolelui. în urma unor bîrfe cum ca Partriarhul ar fi complotat împotriva statului musulman, turcii mai întîi i-au propus sa se lepede de crestinism, si sa se faca musulman, chipurile ca astfel sâ-si dovedeasca nevinovatia. Dar Sfîntul a respins cu dispret aceasta propunere si a fost spînzurat în anul 1657 dupa Hristos.
