Acest cuvios s-a născut în Constantinopol, având părinţi cucernici, cinstitori de Dumnezeu şi foarte bogaţi. Fiind evlavios, din fragedă vârstă a dorit să îmbrace schima monahicească. Pentru aceasta ducându-se într-o mănăstire care se găsea lângă Nocomidia, în apropierea mării, a fost tuns acolo. Şi atât s-a înălţat cu faptele bune, încât şi împăraţilor s-a făcut cunoscut. Pe vremea lui Leon sfărâmătorul de icoane, fiind însă pârât că cinsteşte preacuratele icoane, a fost supus la multe chinuri, la amară izgonire şi la necazuri. Rămânând însă neplecat şi credinţa ortodoxă până la sfârşit păzind-o, s-a mutat către Domnul.
