Prăznuirile cele mai mari ale lui Lazăr, prietenul Domnului şi fratele Martei şi al Măriei, sînt cele de la Şaptesprezece Martie şi din Sfîntă şi Marea Sîmbătă [din Postul Mare], cea numită cu numele lui [Sîmbăta lui Lazăr]. Astăzi însă noi prăznuim mutarea cinstitelor lui moaşte din Insula Cipru la Cetatea Constantinopolului. Aceasta s-a întîmplat în timpul domniei împăratului Leon cel înţelept, la anul 890, căci Leon zidise o biserică la Constantinopol închinată Sfîntului Lazăr, şi a voit ca să aibă şi moaştele sfîntului în ea. Dezgropîndu-se trupul lui Lazăr în cetatea Kition din Insula Cipru, după aproape o mie de ani de la moartea lui, s-a aflat şi tabla de marmură pe care scria: „Lazăr cel mort de patru zile, prietenul lui Hristos."
