Această sfîntă a fost din Perga Pamfiliei. Dar nemaiputînd îndura căsătoria ei cu Dometian, un aristocrat constantinopolitan, ea a părăsit în taină palatul îmbrăcată în haine bărbăteşti, şi luîndu-şi numele de Vavila, a intrat în Mînăstirea Simţului Vassian din Constantinopol. Dar cum bărbatul ei era pururi pe urmele ei, ea era nevoită să fugă şi să se ascundă mereu. Astfel ea s-a aflat pe rînd la Emesa, în Muntele Sinai, la Ierusalim, la Beirut, iar la urmă a ajuns iar la Constantinopol. Matrona s-a îmbrăcat întru îngerescul chip la vîrsta de douăzeci şi cinci de ani, şi a petrecut întru călugăreştile nevoinţe timp de şaptezeci şi cinci de ani. Ea deci a trăit o sută de ani pe pămînt, săvîrştindu-se către Domnul cu pace la anul 492, ca stareţă a unei mînăstiri din Constantinopol. Ea acum se veseleşte în ceruri, întru bucuria Domnului ei.
