Regele, înfuriindu-se drăceşte la auzul acelor cuvinte a poruncit decapitarea pe loc a fiului, lucru care s-a şi întîmplat, la anul 586. Sărmanul rege mai apoi s-a pocăit pentru uciderea fiului lui şi a trecut însuşi la Ortodoxie, după ce mai întîi s-a lepădat de neucurata erezie a lui Arie.
