Sfîntul Isaac a trait în timpul Sfintilor Antonie si Teodosie. El fusese mai înainte de a veni în mînastire un negustor foarte bogat. Dar împartind toate ale sale saracilor, s-a daruit dupa aceea celei mai stricte vieti de rugaciune si de asceza, zavorîndu-se într-o chilie. Sfîntul Antonie însusi îi strecura zilnic, cîte o prescura, printr-o deschizatura a chiliei. Isaac a fost însa înselat de diavolul, care i s-a înfatisat în chipul Mîntuitorului. Crezînd înselaciunii, Isaac s-a închinat lui Satan, din care cauza s-a îmbolnavit grav, si a ramas bolnav timp de doi ani. Dupa aceea si-a redobîndit încet sanatatea, facîndu-se mult mai smerit, mai prevazator, si ajungînd mai apoi la masuri mari. De aceea, cu putin înaintea mortii, Dumnezeu 1- a învrednicit de har peste har. Sfîntul Isaac a adormit cu pace în anul 1090 dupa Hristos.
