Sfîntul Mihail a fost trimis în Rusia de către Patriarhul Constantinopolului, la cererea Marelui Cneaz Vladimir, spre a boteza poporul rus şi spre a întemeia Biserica lui Hristos din Rusia. Sfîntul Mihail a botezat noroadele Kievului, Novgorodului, Rostovului, şi pe cele din multe alte cetăţi şi sate. El a organizat Biserica, a uns episcopi şi preoţi, a pus temeliile Mînăstirii Sfîntului Mihail din Kiev, a trimis misionari la bulgari şi la tătari, cîştigînd pe mulţi dintre aceste neamuri pentru Hristos. Acest mare sfînt a săvîrşit toate acestea, şi mult mai multe decît acestea de mare folos pentru popor, în numai patru ani. El s-a săvîrşit către Domnul şi s-a încununat cu veşnica răsplată la anul 992. Sfintele lui moaşte odinhnesc la Lavra Peşterilor din Kiev.
