Mari şi minunate au fost nevoinţele acestor doi bărbaţi, şi mai mare smerenia lor. Un om 1-a adus pe fiul lui nebun la Avva Anania ca să i-1 vindece cu rugăciunea. Dar Avva Anania 1-a trimis pe om la Sfîntul loan, zicînd că acela mai mare decît el este. Sfîntul loan s-a supus sfmtului Avva, dar a strigat: "întru Numele Domnului lisus Hristos, Avva Anania, iar nu eu, îţi porunceşte să ieşi afară din acest copil, duh necurat!" Tînărul s-a vindecat pe loc.
