El a fost uns rege al Serbiei la ctitoria lui voievodală de la Jicea de către Sfîntul Sava, fratele lui trupesc şi părinte duhovnicesc. El a fost Creştin adevărat, rîvnitor şi plin de cucernicie, domnitor înţelept şi iubitor de pace. împreună cu fratele lui, Sfîntul Sava, el a ridicat Ortodoxia sîrbă pe culmi mari de slavă şi strălucire. La dorinţa lui, Sfîntul Sava, fratele lui, 1-a tuns monah mai înainte de moarte, dîndu-i numele de Simon. El s-a săvîrşit către Domnul în douăzeci şi patru de zile ale lunii septembrie, la anul 1224. Sfintele lui moaşte făcătoare de minuni odihnesc la Mînăstirea Studeniţa. Sfîntul David (mai înainte, Cneazul Dimitrie), fiul lui Vukan, fratele acestui Sfînt Rege Ştefan, a zidit Mînăstirea de la Lim unde însuşi a fost tuns monah. Sfîntul Rege Vladislav, fiul Regelui Sfînt Ştefan, a zidit Mînăstirea Mileşeva, în care a adus sfintele moaşte ale Sfîntului Sava de la Tîrnovo. Acesta a fost părintele săracilor. Monedele bătute în vremea lui purtau inscripţia "Vladislav, robul lui Hristos".
