Sfîntul Nicolae acesta a luat mucenicia tînăr fiind, la anul 1672, din necuratele mîini ale turcilor din Constantinopol. Tatăl lui venise la Constantinopol din Thessalia şi din pricină că avea o prăvălie cu multe feluri de mărfuri, fiul lui, Nicolae, s-a numit Pantopolitul. Turcii au făcut asupra lui Nicolae presiuni mari ca să treacă la islam, dar el s-a ţinut tare ca stînca. De aceea turcii 1-au decapitat pe Nicolae, care astfel s-a strămutat întru veşnica împărăţie a Cerurilor. Sfintele lui moaşte odihnesc în Mînăstirea Xiropotamu din Sfîntul Munte Athos.
