El s-a născut în satul Kalamata din Peloponez, şi s-a nevoit întru călugăreştile nevoinţe la Mînăstirea Ivirul din Sfîntul Munte Athos. El a strălucit foarte mult cu ştiinţa, fiind un bărbat foarte învăţat, în toate ştiinţele seculare ale vremii, dar a strălucit şi cu sfinţenia vieţii. El a luptat în toată viaţa lui să împlinească cuvîntul Sfîntului Arsenic: „Din douăzeci şi patru de ceasuri ale zilei, unul singur îi este destul monahului pentru odihna cea trupească." Sfîntul lerotei s-a săvîrşit cu pace către Domnul aflîndu-se în Insula Varos, la anul 1745. Sfintele lui moaşte sînt făcătoare de minuni. Sfîntul lui cap se păstrează cu cinste la Mînăstirea Ivirul. Atingîndu-se de sfintele lui moaşte care se află la Constantinopol, o femeie oarbă şi-a recăpătat vederea.
