Sfîntul Eufrosin a fost bărbat simplu, dar dumnezeiesc. El a slujit ca bucătar într-o mînăstire din Amoreea, în veacul al nouălea. Intr-o noapte, stareţul mînăstirii s-a văzut pe sine în Rai, iar acolo se afla şi Eufrosin bucătarul. Acesta a cules trei mere dintr-unul din pomii Raiului şi le-a dăruit stareţului. Cînd s-a trezit din vis, stareţul a văzut pe perna lui trei mere nemaipomenit de frumoase şi de parfumate. El 1-a aflat degrabă pe Eufrosin şi 1-a întrebat: „Frate, unde ai fost azi-noapte?" „Am fost unde ai fost şi Sfinţia ta, Părinte," a răspuns Plăcutul lui Dumnezeu. Atunci stareţul a descoperit taina întregii obşti, şi cu toţii au recunoscut sfinţenia lui Eufrosin. De aceea, temîndu-se de laudele oamenilor, Eufrosin Bucătarul a ieşit îndată, în taină, din mînăstire, şi s-a sălăşluit într-un loc necunoscut, pînă la sfîrşitul vieţii lui.
