Sfantul Proroc Zaharia este unul dintre cei profetii care apartin perioadei din istoria lui Israel numita "perioada postexilica“ - adica dupa exilul babilonic. Evreii, intorsi in Ierusalim, dupa 70 de ani ptrecuti in Babilon, isi gasesc casele si Templul daramat, iar pamantul lipsit de puterea de rodire. In acest context, profetul Zaharia incurajeaza poporul ca Templul Domnului sa fie ridicat cat mai repede. Are opt viziuni ce tin de reconstruirea Templului din Ierusalim, de faptul ca Dumnezeu vrea sa intareasca poporul pentru anii care vor urma. In una din viziuni, Ierusalimul este inconjurat de un zid asemanator cu o funie de masurat, ce nu simbolizeaza altceva decat protectia pe care Dumnezeu o va oferi. Vesteste Intrarea Domnului in Ierusalim (Zah. 9, 9), vinderea Mantuitorului pe 30 de arginti (Zah. 11, 12-13), strapungerea coastei Mantuitorului (Zah. 12, 10), etc. Sfantului Proroc Zaharia a adormit in pace, la adanci batraneti.
