Acesta a fost un nobil din cetatea Sevastiei [era unul dintre Senatorii cetăţii, cf. Sinaxarul Sfintului din Minei}. In timpul martiriului celor Patruzeci de Mucenici (pomeniţi la 9 martie), el ia cercetat în temniţă, i-a întărit şi le-a slujit. După slăvită lor săvîrşire din viaţă, a fost arestat şi el, bătut şi torturat pentru Hristos. La urmă a fost spînzurat de un copac, atîrnîndu-i-se de gît o piatră foarte grea, şi o alta la fel de grea atîrnîndu-i-se de picioare. Mulţumind lui Dumnezeu, Sfintul Mucenic Severian şi-a dat sufletul în mîinile lui Dumnezeu. Acestea s-au întîmplat în anul 320, în timpul domniei lui Liciniu.
