El şi-a venit în simţiri numai înspre anii bătrîneţii, cînd s-a pocăit cu amar şi a luat tunderea în monahism. Sfîntul Arhanghel Gavriil s-a arătat lui David şi i-a dăruit harul dumnezeiesc al facerii de minuni. După multe nevoinţe cumplit de aspre, Cuviosul David s-a făcut vrednic împărăţiei Cereşti şi s-a odihnit cu pace, în veacul al şaselea.
