Aşa s-a întîmplat şi în anul 1395, cînd regele tătar Tamerlan a împrejmuit Moscova cu hoardele lui nenumărate. Ruşii au adus atunci de la Vladimir la Moscova Icoana făcătoare de minuni a Preasfintei Născătoare de Dumnezeu, înaintea căreia s-a rugat cu lacrimi tot poporul. Deodată, fără nici o cauză evidentă, armata tătarilor s-a retras în grabă de sub ziduri şi apoi a fugit în dezordine. Din care pricină? Tamerlan avusese un vis, în care oştiri cumplite şi nenumărate de sfinţi se pogorau asupra lui din cer. în mijlocul lor se afla Preasfînta Născătoare de Dumnezeu ca o Regină, înconjurată de oştiri cereşti. Preasfînta Născătoare de Dumnezeu a privit cu asprime la Tamerlan şi i-a poruncit să părăsească pe dată pămîntul rusesec. în acest timp toţi sfinţii şi-au ridicat toiegele şi le-au aţintit ameninţător către el. înspăimîntat, Tamerlan a poruncit hoardelor lui să ridice tabăra de plecare imediat la revărsarea zorilor.
