Sfîntul Pimen acesta s-a nevoit în pustia Rouba, care se afla în pustietatea Palestinei, în timpul domniei împăratului Mauriciu (582-602). El în tinereţile lui fusese păstor de oi. Odată cîinii lui au sărit pe un om pe care 1-au sfîşiat în bucăţi, iar el, din răutate, nu a sărit ca să scape viaţa nevinovatului aceluia. Pentru aceasta i-a arătat Dumnezeu că şi el va păţi la fel, şi va muri sfîşiat de fiarele sălbatice, cînd va sosi timpul. Precum s-a şi întîmplat. El a fost sfîşiat de fiarele pustiei, şi sufletul lui s-a înălţat la Domnul.
