Avva Tithoe a fost ucenicul Sfîntului Pahomie, şi vestit între asceţii Egiptului. El a fost egumenul Mînăstirii Tabenisioţilor. El a trăit toată viaţa lui întru curăţia trupului şi sufletului. Un frate odată 1-a întrebat: „Care este calea ce duce la adevărata smerenie?" Avva Tithoe i-a zis: „Calea către desăvîrşita smerenie este înfrînarea, rugăciunea, şi cunoaşterea că te afli mai prejos decît toată zidirea." Sfîntul Tithoe a ajuns la măsurile cele mari ale desăvîrşirii sufletului şi sfinţeniei încă din timpul vieţii. Ori de cîte ori îşi ridica mîinile la rugăciune, el se răpea cu duhul la cer. El a trecut la Domnul prin veacul al patrulea sau al cincilea, împreună cu Avva Tithoe se face şi pomenirea Sfîntului Preacuvios Ibistion.
