Acest sfint s-a nascut în clanul Niksici din satul Jupa, din parinti saraci dar foarte credinciosi, Radoie si lacima. Dupa traditie, el mai întîi a dus o viata de nevointe în Mînastirea Moracea, careia i-a fost si staret. Dar turcii 1-au alungat de la Moracea, astfel încît el s-a salasluit la Rovaciki, în Turmani, în locul numit Celiste. Mai tîrziu el a intrat într-o chilie la Piperi, unde a ramas întru nevointe aspre si placute lui Dumnezeu pîna la moartea lui. El a adormit în Domnul cu pace, în douazeci de zile ale lunii mai, din anul 1697. Sfintele lui moaste se odihnesc acolo si în ziua de astazi, proslavind cu multe faceri de minuni pe Hristos Dumnezeu si pe Stefan, sfîntul Lui.
