Silvan a fost mai întîi militar, dar mai tîrziu, mînat de dragostea credintei lui crestine, el a intrat în ostirea împaratului Cerurilor. Acuzat de convertirea paginilor la crestinism, el a fost torturat cu bestialitate iar mai apoi omorît prin taierea capului împreuna cu alti patruzeci de soldati, la anul 311.
