Acestia au fost fiii marelui Cneaz Vladimir, crestinatorul poporului rus: mai înainte de botezul lui, acest mare cneaz a avut mai multe sotii si multi copii de la ele. Boris si Gleb erau frati si dupa mama. înainte de moartea lui Vladimir si-a împartit statul între toti fiii lui. Dar Sviatopolk, fiul cel mai mare, Cneazul Kievului, voia pentru sine si partile desemnate de catre tatal sau pentru Boris si Gleb. El de aceea a trimis niste ucigasi platiti care sa-i omoare pe Boris, care se afla într-un loc, si pe Gleb, care se afla într-un altul. Dar ambii frati erau foarte credinciosi si placuti în toate cele lui Dumnezeu. Ei si-au întîmpinat moarte cu rugaciune, înaltîndu-si inimile catre El. Trupurile lor dupa moartea au ramas nestricate si pline de buna mireasma. Boris si Gleb au fost îngropati la Visgorod unde, pîna în ziua de astazi, iese din ele o putere minunata care vindeca oamenii de multe boli si suferinte.
