Pafnutie fusese fiul unei mari capetenii tatare, care mai tîrziu a trecut cu toata inima la credinta crestina. La vîrsta de douazeci de ani el a fost tuns monah, trîind în acest chip într-o mînastire pîna la vîrsta de nouazeci si patru de ani, cînd a raposat întru Domnul. Pafhutie a fost în tot timpul vietii lui feciorelnic si mare nevoitor, din care pricina a fost învrednicita de Dumnezeu cu darul facerii de minuni si al stravederii. Sfîntul Cuvios Pafnutie a trecut la Domnul la anul 1478.
