Emilia a fost maica Sfîntului Vasile cel Mare. Ea în tineretile ei a dorit sa se afieroseasca Domnului, dar parintii au staruit ca ea sa se marite. Emilia a adus pe lume noua copii, iar ea le-a insuflat tuturor copiilor ei într-o asemenea masura Duhul lui Hristos, încît cinci dintre ei au devenit sfinti mari ai Bisericii: Vasile cel Mare, Grigorie de Nyssa, Petru Episcopul Sevastelor, Macrina si Teosevia. La adînci batrînete Emilia a întemeiat o mînastire de femei, întru care a vietuit pîna la sfîrsitul vietii, alaturi de fiica ei, Macrina. Preacuvioasa Emilia s-a savîrsit în Domnul la anul 375, în opt zile ale lunii mai.
