Ori de cîte ori se afla în cetatea Antiohiei cu treburile mînastirii, Toma se prefacea întotdeauna nebun pentru dragostea lui Hristos. Un anume Anastasie nu a voit sa-i dea lui Toma milostenia pe care o cerea pentru mînastirea lui, ci în loc de aceasta 1-a lovit cu pumnul. Toma atunci a prorocit: „De aici înainte, nici eu nu voi mai primi nimic de la Anastasie, nici Anastasie nu va mai putea sa-mi daruiasca vreodata ceva." Dupa o zi Anastasie a murit, iar Toma, mai înainte de a se întoarce la mînastirea lui, â murit si el. Astfel prorocia acestui barbat sfînt s-a împlinit. Sfîntul Toma s-a savîrsit la Dafni, lînga Antiohia, în vremea Patriarhului Domnus (546-560).
