Sfîntul Chirii a luat mucenicia din mîinile lui Decius, pe cînd s-a aflat în al optzeci si patrulea an al vietii sale. El a fost aruncat în foc, dar s-a mîntuit de acolo prin purtarea de grija a lui Dumnezeu. Atunci pagînul jude a scos urmatoarea porunca: „Dreapta judecata nu poate îngadui ca cel numit Chirii, care a scapat din foc, sa ramîna printre cei vii. De aceea poruncim sa fie ucis cu sabia." Sfîntul sfintit batrîn si-a plecat cu bucurie capul sub sabie si s-a stramutat astfel în împaratia lui Hristos.
