Theodor s-a tuns monah la vîrsta de douazeci de ani, si a petrecut ca monah timp de treizeci si sase de ani. Apoi, în vremea împaratiei lui Mihail si a Teodorei, monahul Theodor a fost ridicat Episcop al Edesei. El s-a odihnit în Domnul la anul 848. Pomeniti împreuna cu dînsul mai sînt si povatuitorul lui, Sfîntul Theodosie Stîlpnicul cel din Siria; fratele lui, Sfintul loan; si Sfîntul Ader, un nobil foarte bogat, care lasîndu-si sotie si averi, s-a facut monah.
