Aceasta sfînta icoana a Nascatoarei de Dumnezeu a fost mai întîi la Constantinopole, dar în 1383, cu saptezeci de ani mai înainte de caderea cumplita a acestei mari cetati, ea s-a aratat fara veste pe cerul Rusiei, în partea de nord, în apropiere de orasul Tikhvin. La locul la care ea a venit pe pamînt s-au ridicat biserica si mînastire. De la cetate si-a luat icoana si numele. Nenumarate si mari minuni s-au lucrat înaintea acestei sfinte Icoane, înaintea ei vindecîndu-se mai ales cei suferinzi de boli grele.
