Sennuphius a fost un mare nevoitor si facator de minuni din pustia egipteana, si contemporan cu Patriarhul Theofil si împaratul Teodosie cel Mare. El s-a supranumit Purtatorul de Steag deoarce, cu rugaciunea, el i-a ajutat odata împaratului Teodosie sa biruiasca într-un razboi cu dusmanii Imperiului. Cînd împaratul 1-a chemat pe Sennuphius la Constantinopol, Sennuphius a zis ca nu poate merge, dar ca îi trimite în schimb haina lui cea prea saracacioasa si toiagul lui. Pornind la razboi, împaratul s-a îmbracat pe deasupra, ca si cu o platosa, cu rasa cea saracacioasa a Parintelui Sennuphius, si ridicînd în sus toiagul lui, a pornit la razboi, si a biruit.
