Unii cred ca acest sfmt nu este altul decît Simon cel Lepros, care a fost vindecat de Domnul. Sfîntul Apostol Petru 1-a sfintit pe acest Simon episcop si 1-a trimis la pagînii din Galia, unde Sfîntul Iulian a îndulat toate cumplitele urgii de la acei pagini, dar a izbutit sa aduca si pre multi la Hristos, facîndu-i din pagîni, robi ai lui Dumnezeu. Cînd a botezat pe capetenia Defenson, multi dintre supusii acestuia au îmbratisat si ei Sfînta Credinta. Prin harul lui Dumnezeu, el a facut si multe minuni: el a vindecat bolnavii, a scos afara demonii din oameni, si a înviat mortii. El si-a sfîrsit viata cu pace si, la ceasul iesirii lui, s-a aratat înaintea Printului Defenson în plina zi, pe cînd acesta sedea la masa.
