Acest Mihail a fost un barbat de neam înalt, si foarte bogat. Dar lepadînd din tineretile lui toate desartele averi pamîntesti, el s-a retras la Muntele Maleon care se afla aproape de Sfîntul Munte Athos, si acolo bine s-a nevoit în asprele nevointe pustnicesti, curatindu-si inima cu postul si cu rugaciunea. El mai dupa aceea a avut multi ucenici, dintre care cel mai vestit este Sfîntul Atanasie Amonitul. Sfîntul Mihail a adormit cu pace la anul 940.
