Pe el 1-a adus la Sfînta Credinta preotul Epictet, care 1-a botezat si 1-a si tuns pe Astius în monahism. Ei mai dupa aceea s-au stramutat în partile rasaritului, în Scitia, si s-au salasluit în cetatea scita Almirida (astazi Ramzina), la gurile Dunarii de la Marea Neagra. Ei au fost torturati si omorîti pentru Sfînta Credinta prin taierea capetelor, cam pe la anul 290. Ei s-au înfatisat dupa moartea lor, amîndoi, înaintea parintilor lui Astius, Alexandru si Marchellina, ceea ce i-a facut pe acestia sa se converteasca la Hristos. Alexandru si Marchellina s-au dus si au primit Sfîntul Botez de la Episcopul Evanghelus, cel ce avea sa fie la rîndul lui decapitat pentru Hristos. El este „Evanghelus, noul înger," dupa cum glasuieste o cîntare închinata lui.
