Leucius s-a nascut la Alexandria si a intrat la mînastire din tînara lui vîrsta. El s-a aratat vrednic de mari descoperiri ceresti si de primirea covîrsitorului har, astfel încît el si un mort a înviat si a scos afara diavolii din oameni. La început el a fost Episcop în cetatea Alexandriei, dar dupa aceea a trecut în Italia la porunca cereasca, si s-a dus în pagîneasca cetate Brindisi, botezînd multime de popor si ridicînd o sfînta biserica închinata Maicii lui Dumnezeu. Dupa multe si rodnice nevointe, el s-a stramutat la locasurile cele ceresti si pururea fericite în veacul al cincilea, sub împaratia lui Teodosie al Doilea.
