Sfintii Chir si Ioan au trait la sfarsitul secolului al III-lea si inceputul secolului al IV-lea. Sfantul Chir era originar din Alexandria, iar Sfantul Ioan din Edesa. Chir ii invata pe bolnavi sa se fereasca de pacate, pentru ca ele se faceau pricinuitoare bolilor. Din cauza persecutiei impotriva crestinilor, declansata de imparatul Diocletian (284-305), Chir ajunge in Arabia unde se va calugari, iar Ioan pleaca la Ierusalim. Chir va lasa mestesugul sau doctoricesc, pentru ca va lua de la Dumnezeu darul facerii de minuni. Astfel, nu cu doctorii, ci cu rugaciuni si prin cuvant tamaduia toate bolile.
