Acest Daniil a fost staretul vestitului Schit din Egipt. El a fost ucenicul Sfîntului Arsenic si povatuitor al multor sfinti mari. Multe din cuvintele si învataturile lui sînt cuvinte vii si faruri calauzitoare pentru monahi si astazi. Odata, pe cînd barbarii au atacat Schitul, fratii 1-au chemat îngroziti ca sa fuga împreuna cu ei. El le-a zis: „Daca Domnul însusi nu ma va pazi, atunci la bun mi-ar fi sa traiesc?" Daniil a mai zis: „Cu cît ti se îngrasa trupul mai tare, cu atît mai mult îti slabeste sufletul." El a vietuit împreuna cu fatii în obste timp de patruzeci de ani, dar dupa aceea s-a retras în pustie, la anul 420 dupa Hristos. El sa întîmplat la Alexandria cînd un batrîn desfrînat si rau si-a ucis pe nora lui, Sfînta Tomaida (vezi aprilie, în 13 zile), pentru ca si-a pazit întreaga fecioria ei împotriva desfrînatului ei socru. Daniil si ucenicul lui au luat trupul sfintei si 1-au îngropat.
