Aceasta Sfînta Macrina a fost bunica Sfîntului Vasile cel Mare. Ea era vestita pentru marea ei întelepciune, credinta si evlavie. Ea a fost ucenita Sfîntului Grigorie Facatorul de Minuni din Neocezareea. In timpul domniei lui Diocletian, Macrina si-a lasat casa, si împreuna cu barbatul ei Vasile s-au dus si s-au ascuns în pustietati si în codri. Proprietatile lor au fost confiscate de pagîneasca stapînire, dar Macrina si cu barbatul ei nu au regretat nimic. Lipsiti de toate în afara de dragostea lor pentru Dumnezeu, ei si-au facut casa din pustietatea codrului, unde au vietuit timp de sapte ani. Prin dumnezeiasca purtare de grija, din munte se pogorau la ei capre, care le asigurau lor hrana zilelor. Ei amîndoi au adormit cu pace în veacul al patrulea, dupa ce au trecut prin suferinte mari pentru Credinta lor.
