Augustin a lepadat pagînismul si s-a facut Crestin, datorita multelor rugaminti, sfaturi, lacrimi si rugaciuni ale sfintei lui maici, Monica. El a fost un mare dascal al Bisericii si un scriitor bisericesc de mare anvergura, dar care a cazut si în unele extreme doctrinare pe care Biserica le respinge. Dar el L-a slavit si L-a iubit din inima pe Hristos, în tot timpul celor treizeci si cinci de ani ai vietii lui de Episcop al Hipponei, întru care a si trecut la cele vesnice. Fericitul Augustin a murit în vîrsta fiind de saptezeci si sase de ani [354 - 430].
