Visarioan s-a nascut si a fost educat în Egipt. El s-a închinat vietii duhovnicesti de la o vîrsta foarte timpurie si nicicînd „nu si-a întinat vesmîntul primit la Botez". El 1-a cercetat pe Sfintul Gherasim de la Iordan si a învatat mult de la Sfintul Isidor Pelusiotul. El si-a supus trupul cu postiri si privegheri aspre, dar si-a ascuns cu grija nevointele de ochii omenesti. El odata a stat la rugaciune timp de patruzeci de zile încheiate, fara ca sa guste nici hrana, nici apa, nici somn. El purta o singura haina si vara, si iarna. El avea marele har al facerii de minuni. El nu avea un colt al lui unde sa-si plece capul, ci a vietuit în munti si în crapaturile pamîntului pîna la batrînetele sale adînci. El cu darul facerii de minuni vindeca bolile oamenilor si multe alte minuni facea, spre folosul poporului si spre slava lui Dumnezeu. El a adormit cu pace la anul 466 dupa Hristos.
