Igor a fost cneazul Cernigovului si al Kievului. Prigonit de rudeniile lui, el s-a retras din lume si s-a îmbracat în sfîntul si îngerescul chip. Locuitorii Kievului, nemultumiti de dinastia Ogovici, voiau sa-i extermine pe toti membrii ei. De aceea, ei au atacat mînastirea în care se afla Igor, 1-au prins pe tînarul si nevinovatul schimonah Igor si 1-au ucis. Muie au fost dupa aceea urgiile care au cazut asupra locuitorilor Kievului din pricina acestei crime. Dar deasupra mormîntului acestui fericit monah se vedeau adesea lumînari care se aprindeau singure, iar deasupra bisericii în care era înmormîntat s-a vazut un stîlp de foc care urca pîna la cer.
