Astius a luat mucenicia în timpul împaratului Traian. Mai întîi a fost batut cu toiege de plumb, apoi despuiat de haine si rastignit de un copac. Trupul lui gol a fost dat cu miere astfel încît viespile si tîntarii otravitori sa-1 muste, si astfel sa moara în chinuri. Din mijlocul chinurilor lui, Sfmtul Astius 1-a slavit pe Dumnezeu si s-a odihnit, primind îndoita cununa: a muceniciei si a celei mai înalte preotii.
