Acest Sfint Chesarie a fost fratele Sfîntului Grigorie Teologul cel care a murit în anul 369 dupa Hristos, fiind si el un sfînt parinte si scriitor bisericesc. Printre altele el a încercat sa raspunda la întrebarea: cîta vreme au petrecut în rai Adam si Eva, înainte de a pacatui si a fi izgoniti din el? Unii au spus ca timpul acela nu a fost decît de sase ore; altii, ca de douazeci si patru; iar altii spun ca acel timp a fost trei zile. Sfîntul Chesarie credea ca acel timp a fost de patruzeci de zile. „Caci," spune el, „Stapînul nostru Hristos a postit timp de patruzeci de zile în pustie si în aceasta vreme a fost ispitit de diavolul. Daca vechiul Adam nu a putut rezista ispitei în toata linistea si abundenta care domneau în Rai, atunci noul Adam ne-a aratat ca se poate si trebuie sa rezistam ispitei în setea si foamea salbaticei pustietati."
