Aceasta sfînta cuvioasa a fost mare patriciana la curtea imperiala de la Constantinopol, în timpul împaratului lustinian. Ramînînd vaduva si vazînd ca împarateasa Teodora o priveste cu ochi rai, ea a parasit în taina si fara sa mai stea pe gînduri Constantinopolul, si s-a retras departe, ascunzîndu-se în pustia egipteana. Acolo 1-a aflat pe vestitul nevoitor Avva Daniel, care a tuns-o în cinul monahal si a facut-o cunoscuta fratilor sub numele de monahul famen Anastasie, asa cum ea însasi a dorit si a cerut de la Avva Daniel, Avva binecuvîntînd aceasta. Caci ascunzîndu-se sub chipul de barbat, ea putea fi mai bine aparata de cercetarile împaratului, care trimisese stafete în toata lumea, pe pamînt si pe apa, ca sa o afle. în acea pustie Sfînta cuvioasa Anastasia, parutul monah Anastasie, a dus o viata de zavorita într-o chilie strimta, timp de douazeci si opt de ani. Ea a trecut la cele vesnice la anul 563. înaintea mortii ei, Avva Daniel a vazut fata ei stralucind ca soarele.
