Sfantul Mucenic Codrat a fost nascut in munti, din cauza persecutiilor impotriva crestinilor din secolul al III lea. Dupa nasterea acestuia, mama sa Rufina, o femeie binecredincioasa, a trecut la cele vesnice. Codrat a fost hranit in chip minunat: un nor ii picura roua in gura. Dupa cum Dumnezeu i-a hranit pe israeliti cu mana in pustie, nici pe Codrat nu l-a lasat sa piara de foame in salbaticie. A fost hranit in acest mod, pana ce singur a putut a se hrani cu verdeturile pustiei. La varsta de 12 ani ajunge in cetate si este crescut de o familie de crestini. Va studia medicina si va ajunge sa-i vindece pe bolnavi atat cu remedii trupesti, cat si cu cele duhovnicesti. Cand imparatul Deciu (249-251) porneste lupta impotriva crestinilor, Codrat este aruncat in temnitia, impreuna cu prietenii sai: Ciprian, Dionisie, Anecton, Pavel si Crescent. Pentru ca nu au lepadat credinta in Hristos, au fost condamnati la moarte.
