Gheorghie era albanez. El s-a nascut în satul Churkli din Albania din parinti tarani foarte saraciti. Turcii au folosit forta ca sa-1 convinga pe Gheorghie sa treaca la Islam, dar el a ramas credincios Credintei sale Crestine, drept pentru care a fost spînzurat la loannina în ziua de 17 ianuarie 1838.
