Sfantul Mucenic Agapie si cei sapte mucenici au patimit in vremea imparatului Diocletian (284-305). Sfantul Mucenic Agapie era originar din Gaza, Timolau din Pont, cei doi Dionisie din Tripole (Fenicia), Romil era diacon al bisericii din Diospoli, iar Plisiu si cei doi Alexandru, din Egipt. Dintre acesti mucenici numai Agapie primise botezul prin afundare in apa. Ceilalti au primit botezul sangelui. Uimiti de taria si linistea cu care crestinii primeau chinurile pentru credinta lor, inimile lor s-au inflacarat de ravna pentru Hristos si astfel, si-au legat singuri mainile si s-au infatisat inaintea ighemonului Urban, spunandu-i: "Si noi suntem crestini."
