Sfîntul Marin a fost soldat. Aprins de focul rîvnei dumnezeiesti, el nu numai ca nu voia sa aduca jertfe idolilor, dar si pe ale altora le arunca si le calca în picioare. Din aceasta cauza Marin a fost tîrît în fata tribunalelor, torturat si ucis prin decapitare. Un anume senator, Astirius, îmbarcat într-o toga alba nespus de scumpa, a fost martor la chinurile lui Marin, pe care vazîndu-le, a fost cuprins si el de focul dragostei dumnezeiesti al Credintei în Hristos, Cel Care daruieste robilor sai atîta minunat curaj si tarie; de aceea el chiar tunci a luat pe umerii sai pe mucenicul, 1-a dus si 1-a îngropat cu cinste. Vazînd aceasta, pagînii 1-au ucis si pe el, vazînd ca este Crestin.
