Sfantul Cuvios Vasile Marturisitorul a trait pe vremea imparatiei lui Leon Isaurul, luptatorul impotriva sfintelor icoane. Lasand el lumea si cele din lume, s-a facut monah si a petrecut mai intai in nevointa, iar mai tarziu vazand in primejdie cinstirea sfintelor icoane, a stat cu hotarare impotriva sfaramatorilor de icoane. Pentru aceea a fost prins si foarte chinuit, fiindca nu s-a induplecat cu firea, ci a propovaduit adevarul pana la moarte, avand ajutator si pe dumnezeiescul Procopiu.
