Sfantul Teodot s-a nascut in Galatia (Asia Mica) si a fost episcop al cetatii Cirene din Cipru. In timp ce imparatul Liciniu (311-324) ii persecuta pe crestini pentru ca nu aduceau jertfe zeilor, Teodot le cerea paganilor sa se inchine lui Hristos. Cand Sabin, conducatorul insulei Cipru, l-a sfatuit pe Teodot sa se lepede de Hristos, acesta a raspuns: "Daca ai sti tu bunatatea Dumnezeului meu, in Care imi pun eu nadejdea, si Care in urma acestor chinuri ma va incununa pe mine cu fericita nemurire, si tu ai vrea sa suferi aceste chinuri numai sa dobandesti ceea ce am." Este intemnitat si supus la diverse chinuri. La inceput, l-au pus pe un gratar de fier sub care au aprins un foc; apoi i-au batut cuie in talpi si l-au pus sa mearga. Multi din cei ce au vazut cu cata rabdare indura chinurile, au primit credinta in Hristos. Sfantul Teodot a fost eliberat in vremea Sfantului Constantin cel Mare si a trecut la cele vesnice in anul 326.
