El a fost de neam iudeu, convertit la Ortodoxie. La sfîntul lui botez, atingîndu-se capul lui de Sfînta Cruce, semnul ei s-a întiparit pe cinstitul lui cap si i-a ramas asa pîna la moarte. El a murit la Constantinopol în veacul al saptelea. Vestit pentru marile lui nevointe si pentru multele faceri de minuni, el si-a vazut si vremea mortii lui mai înainte cu sapte ani ca sa se întîmple.
