Sfantul Cuvios Gheorghe a trait in secolul al VII-lea. Dupa ce isi imparte averea saracilor, merge la Ierusalim sa se inchine la mormantul Mantuitorului. Intra in cinul monahal la manastirea Hozeva. Datorita ascezei, luptei impotriva patimilor, se umple de darul Sfantului Duh si devine un stalp insufletit si o icoana a tuturor bunatatilor atat pentru cei din manastire, cat si pentru cei din afara ei. A stralucit cu nevointele si s-a dezlipit de toata desfatarea lumeasca, capatand si darul de a face minuni. Nu a slabit din infranare pana la trecerea sa la cele vesnice.
